Welcome | |
|
|
Firstly I apologize to all for the errors in last weeks newsletter and
my email address should have been
michaelg@m6.net It's school holidays and I am spending some time
with my children - so I was a little too eager to get back to a kids
world.
This week I have had everyone pull out Microsoft Project and review and revise their project schedules to make sure the time estimates on a few key projects are correct in the grand scheme of things. In relation to project management one of our clients offers a web based project management system which you can see at http://www.easyprojects.net/ and another good tool for managing projects and tasks via the web is available at: http://www.taskey.com One last thing that will interest many: anti-spyware tools. For some time I have been trying the Microsoft Anti-Spyware beta which worked ok. But then I read a news report that Microsoft were in discussions to acquire the company behind Gator (which is one of the most prolific adware apps around). Since Microsoft entered discussions they lowered the threat level within the spyware beta for the Gator types apps. I also read in a recent PC-Magazines review of Spyware Apps that the Microsoft Anti-Spyware beta came in at second behind Spyware Doctor I uninstalled Microsoft Anti-Spyware, installed Spyware Doctor and it found 200+ tracking cookies and numerous registry entries to some spyware apps. I also found it is using a lot less memory and CPU. The Microsoft Anti-Spyware tool is free and Spyware Doctor is $29.95. I find it a small price to pay for piece of mind. http://www.pctools.com (This is not an affiliate or paid plug for Spyware Doctor - I just like the product) |

Network Administration |
|
|
This week I have continued to focus on some
major tasks coming up, and have also begun a
more thorough cleanup of some of our older
servers. I will also be implementing a more
structured roster of backup Network Admin
shifts in the coming week, with the goal of
eventually managing shifts and a team just
like the support team. It is a challenging
role to learn and something that I look
forward to.

This week we started a
new staff member, his name is Bob and in the short
time he has been here he has impressed everyone on
the support team with his knowledge. He has a back
ground in support and has fit into the M6.Net team
quite well.
This week the main focus for myself and the support team is to bring the response times down. The goal is to answer all client queries within an hour. At this stage it might be a little ambitious but with the great team here at M6.Net, it's possible to get there. |

The new control panel is being
optimized for speed at the moment and we have found a few
bottlenecks that are being worked on at the moment. Javier is
continuing working on some permission issues at the moment and also
will be adding a new feature of protected web folders, or virtual
directories. This will give our clients more control over the
virtual directory through the control panel and allow people to
easily set parts of their web site to require a login and password.
Everything is running according to plan and if nothing unforeseen
happens we should be able to roll our a system wide beta early next
month.
