M6.Net  Weekly  News    June  15 2005

Michael Guilfoyle
Director

  Welcome

This is the time of year I like to review the direction of M6.Net and the hosting industry. Our 5 year Strategy is still relevant and on target but behind schedule. I am now focusing on working with the key people to help them iron out the difficulties they are having which is causing the delays. A lot of the delay has been due to managing unexpected issues: Fraud accounts and security attacks. A lot of time and money has been spent in this area dealing with the problems and strengthening defenses.

Last week one of our network providers had a massive power failure which caused down time for 4 hours on some servers. We have not had a straight answer on why the UPS did not kick in. We have not been allocating servers in this network for nearly a year now. We are going to be expanding into different geographic networks over the coming 9 months. In this time, as part of our strategy, we hope to be able to offer you the ability to host individual sites in different parts of the world, so you can get your sites closer to your site visitors. This will also reduce risk and increase redundancy.

What I hope to have implemented in the coming weeks is a regular roster of Network Engineering shifts - we are giving some of our most talented support team members the chance to take on greater technical roles. This will give me more time to focus on higher level tasks and also give our support staff more training and experience.

I am testing new monitoring software which will allow us to monitor servers even more closely and monitor more items in regards to server connectivity, services and performance. We are also looking in to new network providers in order to expand our current resources and accommodate growth within M6.Net.

We had a problem with one of our providers late last week and our team responded to all of the queries in a quick and orderly fashion. This week I will be working on a presentation for our potential employees that will be conducted in the very near future. I am looking forward to introducing them when we finalize our selection.

The last week we have continued to work on the fraud detection system and that is finished now, it seems to be working quite well and it will be another layer of protection to all our clients. We have also solved some problems we had with the new control panel, that deals with permissions in the file manager, and they are now solved. A new version of the file manager will be uploaded next week for all the beta testers to try out.

To all current beta testers, please send comments, suggestions and bug reports to bugs@copanel.com   We want to create a control panel that is usable for all our clients, So speak up :)
