Welcome | |

I have been in contact with quite a number of customers over the last
few weeks. Therefore the past week has been spent in reflection and
coaching the team to improve our operations. A number of issues were
identified with how the team was working. We had problems with the lines
of communication, people unsure of their responsibilities, poor team
building on immediate urgent projects and poor follow through from team
leaders. One of the biggest issues was identifying problems when they
were small and not jumping on them to solve them before they grew to big
major issues. I have spent a considerable amount of time training and coaching new key members in key methods developed over the last few years that Chin, Mike and other senior members who are no longer with us are proficient in. These methods are simple - I have instructed Gavan and Kunal to discuss all issues each morning and devise plans to resolve the issues and inform all support team members of these plans and their responsibilities and what they need to inform customers, like yourself, along with continued coordination and follow through to ensure all server and client issues are resolved in a timely manner. Simple stuff, I know. But in the day to day pressures of multiple things happening at once, it can quite overwhelming without the right methods. I will be working closely with Gavan and Kunal on a daily basis, as I have been doing over the last week until they are proficient in these methods. I am also using the same process to uncover further problems and issues within our operations as part of our continual improvement program. Our continual improvement program will never end, as we are a key player in a relatively new industry, working to define it. Suvra, one of the people on our marketing team is working on building a web hosting resources section. This will be a series of directory type web pages with links to resources such as software, script repositories, stock photo sites and the like. If you have any particular resources you would like to see listed please email me at michaelg@m6.net for consideration. |

This week I have been working on some ASP performance issues with a couple of servers and also been looking into an SQL issue between a few servers. I have also made some changes to the backup system regarding client databases, I would also like to remind clients to keep regular backups of your static website data whenever possible - we do back up data regularly but it never hurts to ensure that everyone is backing up!. I have also been working on some internal communication issues and how to improve team efficiency on large scale operations within the team. I would also like to remind everyone who has registered any domain names anywhere (not just with domreg-m6.net) to keep your WHOIS info up to date. Recent changes by ICANN (www.icann.org), the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, to the way domain names are transferred between registrars means if your info is not up to date and you cannot be contacted when a transfer is requested, there is a possibility that your domain name could be transferred without your consent. More information on the current ICANN policy can be found at here and here. |

| Last week and this week we have been moving many of our clients from one of the older problematic servers to the a new server. We have learnt quite a lot from that particular issue and hence from this week we will be training all staff in how to handle such issues better and faster. |

Development and New Technology | |
| The whole of last week was
taken up by coding some very essential parts of the Control Panel. The
idea was to port and upgrade the control panel from the technology we
are currently using, to .NET. There were a few main pages: add and
remove Users, Databases and Domains, that still existed on the older
platform, I have been coding for. Also implemented a new menu control in the Control Panel, together with point help, for ease of use. Worked on login page. |
