M6.Net  Weekly  News    January 18 2006

Michael Guilfoyle
Director

  Welcome

This week we ran another training session for new people to join our team. We recorded the session on video and also used BBFlashBack (http://www.bbsoftware.co.uk/BBFlashBack.aspx) recording the screen and presentation at the same time to edit it all together to produce a Support Training DVD.

To help us grow faster we are now using video for training and introductory sessions. Now the basics that we find ourselves repeating over and over again can handled by a DVD and we, as people can spend more quality time getting to know each person as they come on to our team.

We are looking to perfect our methods of putting knowledge to video; now we can put together introductory and training videos of various aspects of the technology we use, our control panel and how to get the most from our services. This I expect to be able to show you later on the year.

We"ve just provisioned another new web server, and I"m continuing the .Net 2.0 roll-out (very almost done). There have been a couple of hiccups though - for a few people who have requested .Net 2.0, I have had mail bounce back for various reasons, a few others have had the notification eaten by a spam filter, so just to make life easiest for everyone, here is the list of servers with .Net 2.0:

  • 70.86.161.130
  • 70.84.171.154
  • 64.34.200.141
  • 64.34.174.80
  • 64.34.177.92
  • 64.34.163.19
  • 64.34.177.161
  • 70.84.93.34
  • 67.19.249.90
  • 66.98.252.78
  • 66.98.254.19
The delay on other machines is due to a few incompatible bits of software, and a few bits and pieces that need to be upgraded first. The following will be upgraded before this time next week:
  • 70.85.251.170
  • 67.19.119.34
  • 70.85.65.10
  • 70.85.156.26
  • 64.34.163.18
  • 64.34.166.249
  • 69.93.139.114
  • 66.98.160.50
  • 64.34.177.163
  • 69.93.79.178
  • 67.19.211.90
Finally, we"re having some trouble with databases not working, ODBCs breaking, etc. All due to the IP migration mentioned way back in November. We did send out an email then, but the old IPs now don"t work at all - so if you"re having database connection trouble, please check your control panel and make sure your code is using the right address.

This week has been another busy one for support, although not as busy as last week. Alot of clients this week are having issues due to IP address changes at one of our data centres. Notification of this change was sent out last year in late Oct/Nov, however it seems some clients did not receive the emails regarding this. If you are having problems with any 69.44.XXX.XXX or 69.45.XXX.XXX addresses, please contact support for the new IP addresses.

We will also be adding some new support staff in the coming weeks to handle our growth.

This past week have been quite calm and the team has been able to clean up a few outstanding, non urgent, issues. We have also added a new web server where the dev team has helped with some minor automation inconsistencies.
